Communicate to the Needwood Road neighborhoods about Parks Half Marathon. Make 70 double-sided copies of our flyer that we will provide you and place one in every mailbox from the Needwood Golf Course to Redland Road about 2-3 days before the race. Please note the date and time for this task are placeholders only. You may complete this task as is convenient for you.

Traffic Sign Hanging

Details

The sign hanging crew will hang signs along the course and some adjacent roadways two weeks prior to the race. Must have a car or partner with someone who has a car for this task.

Details

Put up mile markers on Saturday, the day before the race. This job should take no more than 2 hours and can be done any time the Saturday before the race. You will be given a map with GPS coordinates to help place the mile markers. You can collect the mile markers on Thursday September 5th at Rockville Library between 6:00pm- 8:00pm or we can discuss alternatives.

Medical Bike Spotters

Details

A medical bike spotter will carry a fanny pack with light medical supplies. Wound care and pain killers mostly. They will attend to runners with minor medical problems and report back to the Team Captain, if there is anything beyond their control. Each medical Biker has a short segment on the course that they will circle back and forth. The Medical Biker should be CPR and First Aid certified. Volunteer will bring their own bikes and helmets, MCRRC will provide fanny packs and medical vest.

Course Marshal (Section 1) High Priority

Details

Important Note: Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age for this task. Volunteers who are under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Report time for section 1 course marshal is 5:30am at the Giant on Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood. After receiving instructions and specific assignments, volunteers will transport themselves to course marshal locations along, and adjacent to the course. Some course marshal will be positioned on streets adjacent to the course to control traffic getting onto the course. Not all marshals will be located on the course. Course marshals must have their own transportation. When the last runners have passed their location, course marshals will stack cones and any other race materials and wait for the cone truck to come through to pick them up. After the cone truck has passed, course marshals may leave. Most marshals for this section will be done by 7:45am.

Section 1 Course Marshals will be stationed from the start area (Shady Grove Metro) to Needwood Rd/Beach Drive.

Course Marshal (Section 2) High Priority

After receiving instructions and specific assignments, volunteers will transport themselves to course marshal locations along, and adjacent to the course. Some course marshal will be positioned on streets adjacent to the course to control traffic getting onto the course. Not all marshals will be located on the course. Course marshals must have their own transportation. When the last runners have passed their location, course marshals will stack cones and any other race materials and wait for the cone truck to come through to pick them up. After the cone truck has passed, course marshals may leave. Most marshals for this section will be done by 8:30am.

Section 2 begins at the entrance to Rock Creek Park on Needwood Road and continues south along the trail to the crossing at Baltimore Road.

Course Marshal (Section 3) High Priority

Section 3 Course Marshals will tentatively meet at 6:30am at KenGar Palisades Park in Kensington for instructions. Marshals will then transport themselves to assigned locations along the course. Note that not all course marshal positions are located on the race course - some are on adjacent streets to control traffic near the course. Major intersections will also be supported by police who will rely on volunteers to assist them. Course marshals who are under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Marshals for this section will be on duty until approximately 11:00am.

Section 3 Course Marshals will be located between Aspen Hill Park and the race finish on Beach Drive south of Grosvenor Metro.

After participants exit the wooded paved trail, the water stop will be on the open grass area (NOT sidewalk) starting at the water fountain and green Randolph Road sign -- all are adjacent to the circular parking lot, then ending the water stop just beyond the wooden bulletin board.
